I blinked and it’s already February

If last fall’s classes felt like they were flying by, it feels like we’re at light speed this semester. Maybe it’s because I have a better sense of how school works, maybe it’s because it feels like every other day I’m submitting a job app, maybe it’s because it’s starting to warm up and I can feel summer just around the corner. Whatever the reason, I’m not mad about it.

Last semester a lot of folks talked about ‘the click’, when classes would just click into place and make sense. I didn’t put much stock into the click until probably Thanksgiving week when I finally started confidently connecting concepts. That was a game changer and the students who had told us about the click weren’t lying about the clarity it would bring. They also didn’t really share that the click would fade a bit over break. I suppose I should have expected that but alas I was bummed to feel slightly in a tail spin the first week. Thankfully by the second week things seemed to settle and I’m understanding the content. It’s also helpful that the classes this semester are more aligned with my interests. Plus I’m not in class until 6pm twice a week.

This semester I’m taking:

  • Property Law – interesting and I can’t wait until the wills & estates portion
  • Con Law II – rough but we will get through it if I can master tiers (tears) of scrutiny
  • Crim Law – interesting, my professor is a hoot
  • Civ Pro II – my favorite class last semester and continues to be
  • Advocacy – fun! Our memo will focus on FMLA claims

I’m really trying to stick to routine this semester so I can feel like I’m keeping my head above water. So far so good, but also challenging with all the extracurricular work to be done. It’s the early part of job application season and most of the jobs I’m looking for won’t open for the next few weeks. I’m sure you all know me well enough to know I’m not patient and don’t enjoy this waiting. I just submitted an application for an on-campus clinic. Because of the extra applications I’ll be spending this weekend catching up on readings from last week and being salty the Bengals aren’t in the Super Bowl.

If you like historical-ish fiction, I would 10/10 recommend Atomic Anna. It’s on the longer side but is great and keeps your attention.
