Last weekend was wrapped up in first full week of school shenanigans. Shannon, Tess, Caroline & I tried out Rhinegeist (so fun!). Shannon & I tried to join the law school Bengals bar crawl (unsuccessful, but still fun!). Volunteered with the law school (fun, but chaotic. Some of our volunteers got triple parked in downtown).
This weekend my mom & Kenna came to visit, shout out to the long weekend for making this happen. The weekend kicked off with a drive by apartment key pick up on Thursday and a great meal at Rich’s. If anyone comes to visit on a Wednesday we’re getting $1 oysters at Rich’s, and I don’t care if you don’t like oysters.
Cheers to the weekend!
Friday I got out of class at the late hour of 3 p.m., which I know sounds ridiculous, but I only have class on Fridays from 1:30p-3p and it’s annoying it’s not earlier in the day. After class the Fisher girls walked over to ~new~ Covington, choked down a glass of questionable wine at local wine bar. Then we had an absolutely amazing meal at Mama’s, a Covington must that requires reservations if not sitting at the bar. My mom did play me on her BeReal at Mama’s, so if you saw it, no you didn’t. After Mama’s we started to wonder down Mainstrasse and saw the sign below

Obviously we had to go to Secret Bar and what a treat that we did. Secret Bar is in the back of a craft store. I am looking forward to doing their Drag Queen Pumpkin Carving in October!! After Secret Bar we made our way to Ripple Bar, another great wine bar. Ripple Bar had a “30 minute wait”, it was approximately 15 minutes and we were already hanging out at Hannaford. Cue a chug and we were off to Ripple Bar.
So listen, I don’t eat red meat very often, but Ripple Bar had the best beef Wellington popovers I’ve ever had. Their brie came with a slice of honey comb. We didn’t get to try their dessert board, but it’s definitely a restaurant I’ll be going back to so it’ll happen eventually. We ended our evening at Golden Gelato and by bullying my mom to drink liquid IV to avoid a hangover. The hangover was avoided, mom will credit just the gel ibuprofen. I maintain it was the liquid IV.
The Tigers would never have played us like this
Saturday I did have to be a student and do homework, lame. Before homework we popped over to the Farmers Market and started a two day search for iced tea. Can you believe I’m in the ~south~ and iced tea options are abysmal?? After homework we grabbed dinner with Hannah on her way home from Michigan. We ate at Frida’s and the queso is unmatched. Note for future visits – go for the pitcher of margarita not individual glasses of margarita.
At Secret Bar the night before we found out that Cole Swindell was performing at the Reds game on Saturday. We bought tickets because, duh adventure. Little did we know that the Reds Marketing/Communication Team is a mess. It rained, and rained, and rained. The game was supposed to start at 6:40 with the concert starting after the game. Well, the Reds decided after a two hour delay that the concert would happen before the game. Did they email us to let us know? No, the angry folks on twitter did. We hustled over, only to find out the concert wasn’t even in the outfield like it was supposed to be. Cole Swindell is a great performer and I’d go to see him again, just not at the Reds stadium or anything Reds related. The Reds finally postponed the stinkin’ game at 10:40 pm.

Finally, there’s iced tea & a breakfast place
Sunday morning StubHub reimbursed Kenna 120% of her tickets from the game. We won’t be using the reimbursement to see the Reds anytime soon, lol. On Sunday our two day hunt for iced tea finally ended. Shoutout to Press on Monmouth being one of the only places in Newport open later than 2pm on a Sunday. Also shoutout to Press for finally having iced tea and good breakfast.
Apparently the Labor Day Weekend Fireworks are a huge deal in Covington, Cincinnati, & Newport. Which if that’s true, riddle me why so many restaurants/bars closed early? Nonsensical but we survived. Shannon joined the Fisher girls for dinner and fireworks, and survived! While the restaurants/bars were goofy, the fireworks were pretty impressive.
The fun is over
It’s Monday and we’re back to our regularly scheduled day. Mom and Kenna left, I’ve studied and worked for 4 hours. RIP to the long weekend, only 4 more weeks til fall break.
